Imagine! Ares, the God of War himself, lurks in the distance, decimating all who oppose him. Kratos climbs up to the rooftops, grabbing Ares’ minions and hurling them to their doom, as Athenian warriors fight undead soldiers upon balconies in the background.

Most of the boss battles in Shadows of the Damned are spectacular events, full of cruel demonic taunts and explosive lightshows that blaze through the murky scenery. During these intense battles, I saw glimpses of the fervor I expect from Mikami’s action games.

It’s SHOWTIME!

Zenki FX may look like something from Treasure, but it didn’t provide the same kind of pleasure. The game lit up my set like a spark in the dark, but it failed to ignite a fire within my heart.

Zenki FX is a beautiful mess, the likes of which we’ll almost certainly never see on a major home console again. Wait — does the PC-FX qualify as “major”?
